STEP 1: Empty one sachet (or more for dense grey coverage) into a bowl and add sufficient water to make a smooth paste.
STEP 2: Apply the paste onto grey hairs using an applicator brush. Leave for 60 minutes, then rinse with normal water. Do not shampoo for 24 hours.

Yes. Both variants colour grey hair only — your existing black hair stays unchanged. Initially the difference may be subtle, but within 2–3 applications the grey strands will take on a distinct rich dark brown shade.
Nilini Dark Brown delivers a darkest-brown shade — closest to black indoors, with warm brown tones visible in natural sunlight. Note: the paste colour and aroma may vary batch to batch due to seasonal herb changes. This is completely normal and does not affect colour output or quality.
The herb combinations and resulting shades differ. Both are single-step Ayurvedic colours free from ammonia, peroxide and perborates. Nilini Black colours grey to natural black; Nilini Dark Brown colours grey to darkest brown. Natural black hair remains unchanged with both variants.
Not recommended. The two formulas use different Ayurvedic herb combinations optimised for separate shades. Blending may produce unpredictable colour results. Use each variant individually as directed.
No. Nilini Dark Brown is formulated to colour grey (unpigmented) hair only. It will not lighten or highlight naturally black hair, as those strands already contain their own pigment.
Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo the day before colouring and ensure hair is dry and oil-free. After rinsing off the colour, wait at least 24 hours before shampooing to allow the dark brown pigment to fully set.
Natural products can also trigger reactions. A patch test is mandatory for every user. Apply a small quantity on the back of your ear, wash off after 1 hour, observe for 48 hours. If any reaction occurs, do not use the product. Nilini is for normal skin types only.
No. Nilini contains henna as one of its ingredients. If you are allergic to henna, do not use this product.
Not recommended. Use within 3 hours of mixing. Nilini contains no stabilisers and loses efficacy when exposed to open air overnight. It is a multi-herb Ayurvedic blend, not just henna.
Nilini contains no synthetic stabilisers. When mixed and exposed to air, the Ayurvedic herbal potency diminishes. Use within 3 hours for the best dark brown hair color result.
Yes, 100% natural with no preservatives. Once opened and mixed, it cannot be stored. Each sachet is a single-use portion. Discard any remaining paste after 3 hours.
Hard water, frequent strong-shampoo washing, and skipping the 24-hour post-colour window are common causes. Use a sulphate-free shampoo and rinse with plain water on the first day to extend the dark brown colour life.
No. Nilini should only be used from 18 years of age. Not recommended for anyone under 18.
No. Do not use Nilini during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please consult your healthcare provider.
Use the patch test sample sachet in the kit. Mix with a few drops of water, apply on the back of your ear (coin-sized area). Allow to dry. Wash off after 1 hour with water. Then observe for 48 hours for any irritation, redness, itchiness or rash — without reapplying. If no reaction occurs, proceed with full application. If any reaction occurs, do not use the product.
Chemical treatments alter hair porosity and may cause colour variations. Perform a patch test and a strand test before full application. Results on chemically treated hair may vary.
If you have sensitive skin or a sensitive scalp, we do not recommend Nilini Dark Brown. This product is for normal skin types only. Consult a dermatologist before use.
Nilini Dark Brown is 100% free from ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate and bleach. It targets grey hair only, converting grey strands to a deep dark brown without altering natural black hair or causing the hair fall and greying associated with chemical dyes.
Color lasts up to 15–25 days with proper after-care and gentle washing.
No. Nilini Dark Brown is formulated mainly to colour grey hair into a rich darkest brown. Your naturally black hair remains largely unchanged, giving a soft, natural, blended look where only greys are toned down over repeated applications.
Nilini Dark Brown is recommended only for normal skin types. It contains PPD (total Arylamine under 1.5% after dilution), so it is not advised for sensitive or allergy‑prone scalps, or anyone with past dye reactions. Even on normal skin, a patch test is mandatory; discontinue if any irritation appears within 48 hours.
Mix the contents of one sachet (or more if needed) with water to form a smooth paste. Apply to clean, completely dry hair, focusing on greys, and leave for 60–90 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with plain water. Do not store mixed paste; discard if it has been exposed for more than 3 hours.
No. Nilini Dark Brown is not recommended for anyone under 18, pregnant or lactating women, or people with sensitive skin, sensitive scalps or known dye/herbal allergies. Shesha Ayurveda advises strict patch testing and avoiding this brown hair colour entirely if you fall into these groups.

Nilini is an ayurvedic hair colour made using Ayurvedic Ingredients. It is India’s first and only hair colour without Hydrogen Peroxide, Sodium Perborate and Ammonia. Peroxide, Perborates and Ammonia are known as bleaching chemicals. These bleaching chemicals will trigger hair fall and increase grey hairs. NILINI contains para phenylene diamine. Total Aryalamine content is less than 1.5% after dilution with water. If you are someone with normal skintype , then this is the best hair colour available in the market. If you have sensitive or allergy skin, then we don’t recommend this product.
Store in a cool and dry place. Each Sachet for single use only.
Exposure to air and moisture can contaminate the product and reduce its efficacy.
️Hydrogen peroxide present in chemical hair dyes is going to bleach your hair and it can damage your healthy hair by spreading GREYS.
‘Nilini’ is an 'Ayurvedic’ hair coloring kit that helps to add color(Dark Brown), shine and lustre to hair. Nilini is created to simplify and shorten the usual hair color process that involves application of henna and indigo separately which is a time consuming process. NO Bleach, NO Ammonia, NO Peroxides, NO Perborates
This product is inspired from the Mural Art of Kerala. Centuries ago our ancestors invented natural colors and these colors were used on the walls of the temples, monuments, rocks etc. These colors never faded and is still existing. Even with the rains, extreme weather conditions etc. We still see those colors. Shesha Ayurveda’s star product – NILINI is based on this above concept of Mural Art of Kerala. The ingredients selection as well the highly complex manufacturing process makes this a wonder product.
Unlike chemical hair dyes that penetrate the cortex of the hair shaft, henna works by binding to the keratin protein in the outer layer of the hair, known as the cuticle - NILINI is not manufactured using any bleaching agents or ammonia etc. which penetrates to hair shaft and works. NILINI is a Ayurvedic hair color and it works in coloring only the grey hair and not upcoming hair. NILINI stays upto 15-20 days and then grey starts coming, for new grown hair too, grey starts and user will have to reapply.
