Easy-to-use single step process
Doesn’t increase grey hair
Provides dark brown color to your grey hairs.
NO Ammonia, No Hydrogen Peroxide, NO Perborates, No Bleach
STEP 1: Empty one sachet (or more for dense grey coverage) into a bowl and add sufficient water to make a smooth paste.
STEP 2: Apply the paste onto grey hairs using an applicator brush. Leave for 60 minutes, then rinse with normal water. Do not shampoo for 24 hours.
STEP 3: Use within 3 hours of mixing. Nilini contains no stabilisers — discard any unused paste after 3 hours.
NILINI Burgundy is specifically formulated to colour grey and white hair to a deep burgundy shade. It will not colour naturally black or dark hair to burgundy — only grey or white strands will take up the burgundy tone. If you use NILINI Burgundy on hair that already contains NILINI Black, only any newly grown grey roots will be coloured burgundy while the rest remains unchanged.
The colour and aroma of NILINI Hair Colour powder can vary from batch to batch — ranging from light green to deep green — depending on seasonal variations in the Ayurvedic raw ingredients. This natural colour variation is completely normal and does not affect product quality or performance. Shesha Ayurveda sources the finest Ayurvedic botanicals and maintains strict quality standards throughout manufacturing.
NILINI Black and NILINI Burgundy share the same core philosophy — both are 100% bleach-free, single-step Ayurvedic hair colours that work exclusively on grey hair. The key difference is the colour result: NILINI Black converts grey hair to a rich natural black shade, while NILINI Burgundy converts grey hair to a deep, true burgundy tone. Natural black hair remains unchanged with both variants.
Mixing two NILINI variants is not recommended. Combining NILINI Burgundy and NILINI Brown will produce an unpredictable colour result — likely a muddy reddish-brown — and the dilution of individual formulas will reduce coverage quality, application consistency, and longevity. Each NILINI variant is precisely formulated for its specific colour result.
No. NILINI Burgundy is not a fashion highlighter or bleach-based colorant — it works only on grey and white hair. Applied to naturally black hair, NILINI Burgundy will produce no visible colour change whatsoever. For burgundy highlights on black hair, a peroxide-based bleaching and toning process is required, which is outside the scope of Ayurvedic hair colour.
If you have a known allergy to hair dyes, a history of scalp or skin reactions to any hair colour product, or have been diagnosed with PPD (para-phenylenediamine) allergy, NILINI Burgundy is NOT recommended for you. Although NILINI is free from ammonia, peroxide, and perborates, it does contain PPD (total arylamine content under 1% after dilution). A patch test is mandatory for all users before first use — apply to the back of the ear, leave for 1 hour, and monitor for 48 hours.
If you are allergic to haircolors or have allergic or sensitive skin - This hair color is NOT recommended. Normal Skin - Patch test is a must for everyone who use NILINI irrespective of whether you are generally allergic to natural products or not. Apply a little quantity on the back of your ear and wash off post 1 hour. Watch out for any irritation or redness for 48 hours. If any redness or irritation occurs, DONT use the product CAUTION : If you have a sensitive skin OR if you have a sensitive scalp - We DON'T recommend you to try or use NILINI. Nilini is an ayurvedic hair colour made with natural ingredients. It is India’s first and only hair colour without Hydrogen Peroxide, Sodium Perborate and Ammonia. Peroxide, Perborates and Ammonia are known as bleaching chemicals. These bleaching chemicals will trigger hair fall and increase grey hairs. It's observed that heating of NILINI ingredients along with burnt coconut shells for several days may result in the release of para phenylene diamine in this product. Total Aryalamine content is less than 1% after dilution with water. If you are someone with normal skintype , then this is the best hair colour available in the market. If you have sensitive or allergy skin, then we don’t recommend this product.
No. NILINI Burgundy contains Lawsonia inermis (henna/Madayanti) as one of its key Ayurvedic ingredients. If you are allergic to henna, you should not use NILINI Burgundy.
No. NILINI Burgundy is not the same as plain henna and must not be mixed and stored overnight. Once mixed with water, use the entire paste within 3 hours. NILINI contains 25+ potent Ayurvedic herbs with no artificial stabilizers or preservatives — prolonged exposure to air and moisture causes oxidation and contamination, significantly reducing color performance.
NILINI Burgundy contains a complex blend of 25+ Ayurvedic botanicals including Indigofera tinctoria, henna, and other colour-fixing herbs — none of which contain artificial preservatives or stabilizers. Once the powder is mixed with water, exposure to air causes gradual oxidation and microbial contamination. Using the mixed paste promptly within 3 hours ensures maximum colour intensity, even coverage, and full efficacy of the Ayurvedic actives.
Because NILINI is 100% natural with no added preservatives or stabilizers, exposure to air and moisture degrades the active botanical compounds rapidly. Storing mixed paste reduces its colour-depositing efficacy significantly. Use the patch test sample sachet provided for testing, and open production sachets only when you are ready to apply. Once opened, use within 3 hours.
Faster fading can be caused by several factors: (1) insufficient application time — always leave the paste on for the full 60 minutes; (2) paste consistency too watery — use minimal water for a thick, coating paste; (3) shampooing on color day or using sulfate-rich shampoos; (4) frequent washing — limit washing to 2–3 times per week; (5) hard water — high calcium and magnesium content accelerates color fade; (6) use of heat styling tools without heat protection. Consistent application technique significantly improves longevity.
No. Hair colour — natural or chemical — is not recommended for anyone under 18 years of age. Shesha Ayurveda recommends NILINI Burgundy only for adults aged 18 and above.
No. Shesha Ayurveda does not recommend use of NILINI Burgundy during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Open the patch test sample sachet provided in the box. Mix a small amount with water to form a paste consistency. Using a cotton earbud or applicator brush, apply a coin-sized amount on the skin behind your ear. Leave for 1 hour and wash off. Monitor the test area closely for 48 hours for any redness, itchiness, irritation, rashes, or discomfort. If any reaction occurs, do not use the product. Perform the patch test before every new packet, as ingredient seasonal variations may affect individual sensitivity.
You can use NILINI Burgundy on chemically treated hair, but the results may vary. Residual chemical buildup from past bleaching or perming can cause colour variation and may require 2–3 applications to achieve the full burgundy depth. Perform both a patch test and a strand test before full application. Consulting a trichologist is also advisable, particularly if your hair has undergone significant chemical processing.
No. NILINI Burgundy is not recommended for individuals with sensitive skin or a sensitive scalp. While it is free from ammonia, peroxide, and perborates, the Ayurvedic botanical blend includes PPD and other active ingredients that may cause reactions on sensitive skin. Only individuals with normal skin and a non-reactive scalp should use NILINI Burgundy — after a mandatory patch test.
NILINI Burgundy delivers a rich, deep burgundy tone to grey and white hair. It does NOT produce a maroon shade, a reddish-brown tint, or an orange cast. The resulting colour is a genuine, sophisticated burgundy that blends naturally with surrounding black hair, creating a beautiful highlighted effect on grey coverage areas.
No. NILINI Burgundy works selectively on grey and white hair only. It cannot deposit burgundy colour on naturally black or dark hair — those strands will remain completely unchanged. Only grey and white hair will take up the rich burgundy tone, creating a natural gradient effect.
Most users with untreated grey hair see a clear, rich burgundy colour after a single application when applied correctly for the full 60 minutes. If you have previously used harsh chemical dyes, had bleached hair, or have coarse or resistant grey hair, 2–3 applications of NILINI Burgundy may be needed to build up the desired colour depth and intensity.
On clean, dry, untreated grey hair with the full 60-minute application time, NILINI Burgundy typically lasts 15–25 days. Colour longevity depends on washing frequency, shampoo type, water hardness, and whether you use heat styling. To maximize longevity: rinse only with water on color day, switch to a sulfate-free shampoo, wash 2–3 times per week, and avoid hot water on hair.
NILINI Burgundy is ammonia-free, peroxide-free, perborate-free, and bleach-free. However, it contains PPD (para-phenylenediamine), with total arylamine content under 1% after dilution. It is formulated for normal skin types only. Individuals with sensitive skin, sensitive scalps, active PPD allergy, or a history of hair dye reactions should not use this product. A patch test is mandatory for all users.
No. NILINI Burgundy is not a bleach or pre-lightener and does not contain peroxide, ammonia, or any bleaching agent. It cannot lighten, strip, or prepare natural black hair for other color applications. NILINI Burgundy should not be mixed with other hair colour powders or chemical products, as this will alter the formulation ratio and produce poor, unpredictable results.

NILINI Burgundy achieves a rich burgundy tone using only Ayurvedic botanicals, with zero bleaching agents, zero ammonia, and zero perborates. It works by depositing colour compounds onto grey hair without penetrating or damaging the hair cortex.

‘Nilini’ is an 'Ayurvedic’ hair coloring kit that helps to add color(black), shine and lustre to hair. Nilini is created to simplify and shorten the usual hair color process that involves application of henna and indigo separately which is a time consuming process. NO Bleach, NO Ammonia, NO Peroxides, NO PerboratesThis product is inspired from the Mural Art of Kerala. Centuries ago our ancestors invented natural colors and these colors were used on the walls of the temples, monuments, rocks etc. These colors never faded and is still existing. Even with the rains, extreme weather conditions etc. We still see those colors. Shesha Ayurveda’s star product – NILINI is based on this above concept of Mural Art of Kerala. The ingredients selection as well the highly complex manufacturing process makes this a wonder product.
Unlike chemical hair dyes that penetrate the cortex of the hair shaft, henna works by binding to the keratin protein in the outer layer of the hair, known as the cuticle - NILINI is not manufactured using any bleaching agents or ammonia etc. which penetrates to hair shaft and works. NILINI is a Ayurvedic hair color and it works in coloring only the grey hair and not upcoming hair. NILINI stays upto 15-20 days and then grey starts coming, for new grown hair too, grey starts and user will have to reapply.
