Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Thailam is an ayurvedic oil that produces both cosmetic and therapeutic effects on the skin. This oil is one of the products that could be used for all skin types and is very well known for its action as a natural skin illuminator. The name Kumkumadi is obtained from one of its main ingredients saffron which is known as kumkuma in Sanskrit. This magical oil is a mix of various flowers, fruits, plant parts, milk products, etc that could be applied regularly without any side effects.
Natural Ingredients of Kumkumadi Thailam
Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Thailam is prepared from 17 natural ingredients using the traditional method. These natural herbs are made into a decoction and the base oil used here is the sesame oil.
Saffron (Kumkuma) – The main ingredient of this herbal formulation is saffron, which is involved in skin lightening and also illuminates the skin. It has both antibacterial and antioxidant properties which help to overcome the Pitta and Vata doshas.
Turmeric (Daruharidra) – This possesses both anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which are involved in treating various skin infections.
Indian Lotus (Padmaka) – The lotus extract is obtained and could be used to treat the pain and inflammation occurring in the skin.
Lotus Stamen (Padmakesara) – This helps in hydrating the skin and works as a natural conditioner. It also prevents the dryness of the skin and also removes acne.
Indian water lily (Nilotpala) – The floral extracts of this water lily helps in stabilizing the Pitta and Kapha doshas. This also helps in rejuvenating the skin, moisturizes and brightens the skin, and also soothes irritation.
Sandalwood (Chandana) – The presence of sandalwood in this oil supports the skin by reducing the pimples, suntan, acne marks and also removes the excess oil from the skin.
Vetiver – The antiseptic property of this vetiver helps to treat various skin problems. Also, it increases blood circulation and stabilizes hormonal disorders.
Indian Licorice (Yashtimadhu) – The root extract obtained from this tree prevents pigmentation caused by exposure to the sun and also removes age spots.
Indian Madder (Manjistha) – It is a type of red root that possesses both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Also, it enhances blood circulation thereby lowering the pigmentation and also inflammation of the skin.
Laksha – It is a gum-like secretion obtained from the insect Lacca lacifera which possesses anti-fungal properties. This helps in wound healing and various other skin infections.
Indian Redwood (Pattanga) – This may provide the oil with healing properties and helps to treat various skin infections.
The Kumkumadi Thailam also contains goat’s milk which helps to nourish the skin.

Way to use Kumkumadi Thailam
This oil is applicable for all types of skin and for oily skin they are applied in a small amount to prevent a greasy appearance. The steps involved to use this oil
- Cleansing the face properly
- Washing with mild face wash
- Apply a few drops of Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Thailam in the face, neck, and affected areas.
- Massage for about 5-10 minutes evenly in circular movements
- Allow it to remain for about 2-3 hrs
It should be noted that for oily skin, it has to be washed after 3hrs to avoid a greasy appearance. But for dry skin, it could be kept overnight.
Can Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Thailam be used for all skin types
It is noticed that this oil cannot be overused for oily skin as it might look too oily and greasy. As it is very useful for treating various skin problems it can be used for both dry and oily skin. But for sensitive skin patch test is recommended and then can be used.
