Ayurveda Tips, Hair Care Oil

Haircare with Ayurveda

Healthy nourished skin and hair are synonymous with beauty. Healthy skin and hair reflect a healthy body. Many people go behind cosmetics to take care of their skin and hair. But these products contain chemicals that are damaging at the same time. This is when the whole focus can be turned to Ayurveda, the all-natural, chemical-free remedy.

Ayurveda recommends the use of herbal creams, oils, and supplements to enhance one’s skin and hair health. These herbs are time tested as they had been in use for centuries, plus are chemical-free. The ayurvedic approach is a natural way to take care of your skin and hair health.

Ayurveda and Hair care

Ayurveda suggests using hair oil to nourish the hair, and herbs for toxin removal and restore body balance.

Hair types and Doshas

According to Ayurveda, the balance of three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) govern our body. The doshas in imbalance or when aggravated lead to ailments. This is also the same in the case of hair health and Ayurveda classifies hair into three types based on the doshas.

  • Vata type: Vata type hair is dry and cool. The hair is rough, thin, and more porous. Due to the highly porous nature, harmful substances and chemicals are absorbed easily resulting in hair damage. Mostly Vata hair is wavy and when imbalanced becomes difficult to handle. It falls out in clumps and becomes brittle so needs moisturization.
  • Pitta type: Pitta type hair is smooth and silky, and an imbalance leads to premature greying and baldness. Pitta’s hair is straight, of medium texture, and balanced porosity, hence less prone to damage. The scalp can also become oily and cause dandruff or boils. Pitta-type hair can be managed using herbs and anti-inflammatory products.
  • Kapha type: Kapha hair is lustrous and thick in texture. But, when aggravated it causes heaviness and the excess oil can cause blackheads, acne, etc due to clogged pores. This type of hair is less porous and takes more time to dry. Kapha’s hair is mostly curly in nature. It needs cleansing to remove the excess oil and also the clogged pores.

The hair type determines the regimen to follow.

Hair Care ingredients from Ayurveda

Ayurvedic products are time tested and most are made from ingredients listed in the ancient texts. Some popular Ayurvedic ingredients that are used in hair care are

  • Bhringaraj (Eclipta alba): Bhringaraj is extremely nourishing for the hair. It enhances the luster of the hair and deals with different hair problems. It also soothes the mind. Bhringaraj is rich in antioxidants and helps rejuvenate the hair. It fights dandruff and other conditions.
  • Coconut oil is extremely helpful in ensuring hair growth and hence is used as a base oil for herbal oils. Coconut oil as such can also be used. Shesha Ayurveda cold-processed extra virgin coconut oil is one of its kind which is all-natural.
  • Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri): Brahmi promotes hair growth and nourishes the scalp. It also strengthens the blood vessels thereby promoting hair growth. Brahmi also helps reduce stress and manage hair problems.
  • Triphala: Triphala, as the name suggests is a mixture of three herbs. It includes Amla which detoxifies and rejuvenates the body. Triphala ensures that the hair is nourished.

The better oil for hair care

When it comes to hair care, Shesha Ayurveda Neelibringadi intensive hair treatment oil tops the list. The presence of Amla and Indigo in the oil nourishes the hair. The oil also contains Bhringraj that helps to promote the growth of strong and healthy hair.

The Ayurvedic way of well-being

Skin and hair health does not need a superficial approach with the use of cosmetics. Rather it needs a holistic approach that focuses on an overall sense of good health. This can be achieved by incorporating certain lifestyle changes and dietary practices.

  • Follow a diet that suits your skin and hair. With this approach, the overall health is improved. Some foods aggravate the Dosha and such should be avoided.
  • Physical activity is much needed. This can be yoga or exercise.
  • Meditation creates positivity and relieves stress. It is better to practice meditation.
  • Sufficient rest is another aspect. A deep sleep not only refreshes you but also your skin.
  • Following a proper skin and hair care regime is one important aspect. Use of natural products is recommended.

Following these simple steps will help attain nourished, radiant skin and lustrous hair.
